Competition Regulations

  1. Tournament Rules
    • The tournament will use a Swiss-system pairing format, and all players must complete all scheduled rounds, regardless of their win-loss record.
    • For Advanced, Open Dan, and Open High Dan Groups (Groups C, D, E): games will be played on a 19×19 board using Chinese counting rules, where black wins with 185 stones.
    • The time control is 60 minutes of absolute time per player, and any overtime results in an automatic loss.
    • For Beginner and Intermediate Groups (Groups A, B): games will be on a 13×13 board using Chinese counting rules, where black wins with 88 stones.
    • Redo moves are strictly forbidden.
    • Players are not allowed to leave the competition area during a match without the Chief Referee’s approval.
    • Unjustified withdrawal or forfeiture is prohibited and may lead to sanctions.
    • The Chief Referee will adjudicate any disputes. Appeals can be made following the tournament’s arbitration procedures, and the Arbitration Committee’s decision is final.
  2. Venue Conduct
    • Players, officials, and spectators must maintain a quiet and respectful environment, as the venue is a public space.
    • Unauthorized entry and exit are prohibited.
    • Players who are more than 10 minutes late without a valid reason will forfeit their match.
    • Parents and accompanying persons must help keep the venue orderly.
  3. Player Code of Conduct
    • Confirmed cheating or unethical behavior will result in immediate disqualification and blacklisting from future events.
    • Players must show good sportsmanship and respect referees, opponents, and spectators.
  4. Appeal and Arbitration Procedure
    • To appeal a decision, a player must submit a written appeal within 30 minutes of the incident.
    • An appeal fee of RM100 is required. The fee is refunded if the appeal is upheld; otherwise, it is kept to support tournament operations.
    • The Arbitration Committee will make a final decision within one hour.
  5. Important Notes for Participants
    • Participants must wear proper attire, including long pants and closed-toe shoes.
    • Participants are advised to bring their own drinking water.
    • Players with a Malaysian Identity Card will be in the Malaysia Group; others will be in the International Group.
  6. Swiss-System Pairing Standards
    • The number of rounds is determined by the number of participants.
    • For example, 2–4 participants have 2 rounds; 17–32 participants have 5 rounds.
    • Each group must complete all scheduled rounds to determine final rankings.
  7. Match Pairings and Results Announcement
    • Pairings are announced 30 minutes before the start of each round.
    • Players are responsible for checking their pairings and arriving on time.
    • Official results will be published after each round.
  8. Special Circumstances Handling
    • Players who forfeit two consecutive rounds without a valid reason will be removed from the tournament.
    • Serious misconduct, such as cheating, will lead to immediate disqualification and blacklisting.
  9. Awards and Recognition
    • A cash prize pool of RM8,000 is available exclusively for the Open High Dan Group.
    • Open Dan and Open High Dan Groups: trophies for 1st–8th place, medals for 9th–16th place.
    • Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Groups: trophies for 1st–3rd place, medals for 4th–16th place, depending on participant numbers.
    • All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
